On June 10, the first refrigerated ship, Baltic Summer, carrying South African citrus exports to China, officially arrived at Shanghai Hainan Port. The ship set off from the eastern South African port of Durban early last month and docked and unloaded in Japan before arriving in China, where about 600 pallets of grapefruit were used to supply the mainland market.

It was the first shipment since South Africa's citrus industry reached a refrigerated shipping agreement with China. Government officials, industry figures and media representatives from the two countries gathered in Hainan Port to witness this historic moment.

"It is a great honor to witness the arrival of the first batch of citrus fruits transported by South Africa's bulk refrigerated vessels," said Ms. Anna Ho, Consul General of South Africa in Shanghai, at the scene. This is a major outcome of the long negotiations between South Africa and the Chinese Government and a cause for celebration.
