Chestnuts are a relatively popular fruit, and it will soon be the ripening season for chestnuts. Chestnuts are rich in nutrients, with a higher vitamin C content than tomatoes, and more than ten times that of apples. Chestnuts also contain a full range of minerals, including potassium, zinc and iron, which are not as high as hazelnuts but are still much higher than ordinary fruits such as apples, and in particular contain more than three times more potassium than apples.

Various chestnut trees bear edible nuts, usually oval or long oval shaped, 10-30 cm long and 4-10 cm wide, with spiny hair-like teeth on the edges.
