Kiwi fruit from France, Italy, Greece, South Korea and Japan will sell about 26 million boxes (93000 tons) this quarter. Zespri's northern hemisphere kiwi fruit is rich this season, especially the sharp increase in the production of sun gold, which is expected to make the sales volume of this season surpass that of last season.
"As the harvest shifts from New Zealand to the northern hemisphere, this season will be our largest season, and we look forward to providing consumers with kiwi fruit with higher quality and better taste," Kirton said. "The increase in production also reflects that we are in the growth stage because we will continue to increase supply to meet the growing market demand.
The sales volume of green fruit in this quarter is expected to be the same as that of last year, while that of sunshine golden fruit is expected to increase by 13%, which also reflects the progress in output growth, new production and pest management.
Kirton said that given the challenges faced by growers in Europe and Asia this year, the harvest this season is even more gratifying. "This year is a difficult season for some European growers. Frost in spring and hail at the end of the season have affected fruit production in some areas, while it is rainy in Asia. There is still a risk of typhoon attack before harvest is completed," Kirton said.
