The first large sweet potato sorting plant in Central America

In 1492, after Columbus discovered the American continent, people in different continents began to share different products from all over the world by taking the ocean as the channel. In this great transformation of organisms, crops, race, culture and ideas between the Eastern and Western hemispheres, many products originating in central and South America began to be introduced into China. It not only changed the way of planting and living habits of the Chinese people, but also influenced the course of Chinese history. One of these crops is known as the "rescue crop", the sweet potato.

Sweet potato originated in subtropical and tropical areas of central and South America. The local Indians cultivated a lot of food crops unique to the American continent in the long process of hard work, sweet potato is one of the outstanding ones.

When the Spanish discovered this high-yielding crop in Central and South America, they took it to their Asian colonies, such as the Philippines, to grow it. According to historical records, it was Chen Yi who first introduced sweet potatoes to China during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. In 1580, he took a friend's merchant ship from Humen, Guangdong Province to Annam (modern Vietnam). When a local tribal leader of Annam received them, he served them a sweet and smooth official dish, which tasted good and satisfied their hunger. Chen Yi then spent two years focusing on the cultivation techniques of sweet potatoes, which, when introduced back to Guangdong, yielded a bumper harvest even on the relatively barren mountainsides.

Through generation after generation of breeding and improvement, the planting area of sweet potato in China has been far ahead of other countries in recent years, which also promotes the rapid development of local sweet potato packaging industry.

Driven by the huge market demand, FstSort has developed a practical and efficient sweet potato sorting equipment to achieve streamline operation. A single production line can be used for pre-cleaning, secondary cleaning, sterilization, drying, and sorting of sweet potatoes.

For high-end users, we can increase the visual sorting function on the basis of diameter sorting, and the function of weighing and packing, automatic palletizing. Mechanical damage, rot, deformities, insect eyes and other defects will be captured and eliminated during the visual sorting process, greatly improving the quality of sweet potato.

This year we installed a complete large sweet potato grading line in Central America and achieved outstanding results.

"The processing capacity of 10 tons per hour is very busy for the workers in charge of packaging, and the workers have no time to rest. We want to connect the larger packaging desk so that more people can join the packaging work and maximize the benefits of the equipment. But I have to say, this sweet potato sorting line is awesome! It has fulfilled all our fantasies and we will be customising another batch of equipment from FstSort for the new packaging plant next season, "says David, head of the shop.

David added: “The quality of our sweet potatoes this year is very good. What's more, there is no mechanical damage to the sweet potatoes after cleaning and sorting, which is the most incredible thing for me. In addition, Jason Wang was very patient and professional in all aspects of solution customization and equipment installation guidance. His suggestions saved us a lot of installation costs. Thank you very much!

I believe that FstSort can do better in the future and help more exporters like us to get the highest benefit with the lowest investment”.
