According to the "Agricultural Outlook for 2021-2030" issued by the organization for economic cooperation and development, Mexico's share of global avocado exports is expected to reach 63% by 2030.
Driven by the continuous growth of demand from the United States, the largest market for Mexican avocados, Mexico, as the world's major producer and exporter of avocados, is expected to grow at an annual rate of 5.2% in the next decade.
According to the report, by 2030, avocados are expected to become the most traded tropical fruit, surpassing mangoes and pineapples. The global annual export volume will reach 3.9 million tons. It is estimated that by 2030, the global output will reach 12 million tons, an increase of 300% over 2010.
Although Mexico's exports of avocados fell 8.1% to 1.3 million tons last year due to the epidemic and poor production, the double-digit export growth rates of Peru, Colombia and Kenya reduced global exports by only 0.8% in that year. In 2020, these three countries together account for about 25% of global exports of avocados.
