European winter fresh tomato production is expected to decline and shift towards smaller varieties. This is the forecast for the tomato market until 2035. The decline in fresh tomato production is an important trend predicted.

At the same time, fresh tomato consumption is expected to remain stable due to the growing demand for small varieties, especially for snacking, which has led to a surge in interest. On average, tomato consumption per person per year is expected to remain at 15.2 kg.

In contrast, both production and consumption of processed tomatoes in the EU are expected to grow, driven by the growing demand for processed foods. Annual growth is expected to be 1.2%, reaching 23 kg per person per year in 2035.
