New figures from the World Avocado Organization (WAO) reveal which European markets are the biggest consumers of avocados. As of last year, the UK was in second place along with Germany, with each producing around 110,000 tonnes. France, however, loves avocados the most, shipping an impressive 150,000 tonnes of avocados last year.
In addition to the above three countries, Scandinavia is also a potential consumer of avocado. Scandinavians consume an average of 2.2 kilograms per person. By comparison, Britons eat an average of 1.6kg, Germans 1.3kg and Italians 0.8kg. Avocado production increased slightly in France, the UK and Italy compared to last year, while Germany continues to increase its avocado production this year.
Avocado is loved by young people for its delicious taste and health benefits. Avocados are rich in healthy monounsaturated fats, vitamins, minerals and fiber that help improve overall health. Its unique, mild flavor and creamy texture make it the perfect versatile ingredient for both savory and sweet dishes. The study also found that avocado consumers enjoy avocados at any time of the day, whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner or as a snack.
