Chilean blueberry exports reach a peak

According to data from the Chilean Blueberry Association, Chilean blueberry exports returned to normal in the 50th week of 2020, with a weekly export volume of 10,308 tons, an increase of 10.2% over the same period last year and a sharp increase of 102.2% over the previous week. The return of cargo ships to Europe to normal is a major factor in the substantial increase in exports. Although the export volume in 50 weeks exceeded 10000 tons, making the total blueberry export volume in this season reach 20665 tons, the export volume is still 6.4% lower than that in the same period of last year. At the same time, in the 50th week, the export of organic blueberry reached 754 tons, with a year-on-year growth of more than 49.3%, still maintaining a high-speed growth trend.

It can be seen from the distribution of export regions that in the 50th week, Chile's blueberry export to European market reached 5056 tons, surpassing North American market (4001 tons) for the first time, and its export to Asian Far East market also reached 1307 tons. Specifically, the North American market is still in a decline in exports, with a year-on-year decline of 11.4% in a single week. It is expected that exports to the North American market will face a contraction in this production quarter. The European market grew 93.6% year on year in a single week, of which 1522 tons were exported to the UK and 3271 tons to the European mainland. However, the export of Asian market did not return to last year's level, with a decrease of 22.4% compared with the same period last year. Among them, the export to China was 916 tons, and the export to other Asian regions was 389 tons.
