Australia's avocado production soars

In recent years, due to strong consumer demand for avocado, a large number of Australian fruit farmers have followed suit, and many fruit trees planted in the previous two years have begun to blossom and bear fruit this year. In addition, avocado can grow throughout the year in many parts of Australia, resulting in a sharp increase in supply of 65% this year, and the market retail price is only about 1 / 3 of that before.

According to ABC agriculture channel, Australia's avocado production is expected to reach 120000 tons in 2021, compared with less than 80000 tons last year. Data show that in 2010, the output of avocado in Australia was only 39600 tons, an increase of 200% in 12 years.

According to data from the Australian Avocado Association, in 2026, five years from now, Australian avocado production will reach 170,000 tons, which is more than twice the output in 2020. The Australian avocado industry has launched a large number of publicity activities across the country, urging everyone to eat more avocados, but it still cannot get rid of the slow sales. The consumption of avocados in Australian restaurants and cafes accounts for about 20% of the entire market. Due to the epidemic, the catering establishments cannot operate normally, and the consumption of avocados has also been affected.

Despite the difficulties of unsalable, Australia is still importing avocado in large quantities. In 2020, Australia imported 24700 tons of fresh and dried avocado, an increase of 64% over 2019. Most of these avocados come from New Zealand and are mainly used to fill the market gap in the off-season of domestic production. In 2020, Chilean avocado also entered Australia for the first time, and Chile's import volume is expected to decrease this year.

At present, Australian avocado is expected to open the Indian market soon. China is also one of Australia's target markets, but it takes a long time to gain access to the Chinese market.
