South African Apple will arrive in China early next month

The first South African apple of the season will arrive in China early next month and is expected to be fully listed in the Chinese market in the next few weeks. According to the feedback from hortgro pome, the South African Fruit Association, the quality of South African apples in this season is high and the taste is very good. The export volume is expected to increase by 4% compared with 2020.

Since 2015, apple of South Africa has entered the Chinese market and has been welcomed by the market. In the two production seasons of 2019 and 2020, China imports 9631 tons and 5895 tons of South African apples respectively. Although the export of South African apples to China has just started this season, the export of South African apples has a good start in terms of ship scheduling and quantity. In addition, from the beginning of this production season, hortgro pome will launch promotional activities in the Chinese market to expand the sales of South African apple in China.

"Although the harvest time of apple is about 10 days later than normal due to the cold temperature, the overall climate conditions in South Africa are conducive to the quality of apple this season, especially the growth of Apple cuticle." Jacques Du Preez, trade and marketing manager at hortgro, said. In addition to favorable weather conditions, global apple exports are expected to grow this season as new apple trees begin mass production.
