According to the Guangming Daily, the Tariff Commission of the State Council of China issued a notice recently to adjust import tariffs on some commodities from January 1, 2020. Tariffs on imported fruits have been further reduced. Countries such as Chile, Peru, and New Zealand still implement zero tariffs.
Tariffs on citrus are reduced from 3.7-10% in 2020 to 2.4-6.7%, including Australian citrus. Even if China-Australia relations are still in a tense stage, China has not adopted special treatment for Australian fruits, and other Australian fruits other than citrus are still subject to zero tariffs. According to the original plan, Australia’s tariffs on fresh oranges will also be reduced year by year, to 2.4% in 2021, to 1.2% in 2022, and zero tariffs until January 1, 2023.
In addition, the tariff on grapes in South Korea has been reduced from 5.2% in 2020 to 3.9%, and the tariff on pineapple in Costa Rica has been reduced to 3.2%. There are also large reductions: fresh or dried avocados from 25% to 7%, frozen avocados from 30% to 7%, and non-frozen orange juice from 30% to 15%.
