Dominica is located in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, belonging to tropical rainforest and savanna climate. The annual average temperature is very high, the precipitation is abundant, and the growth cycle of crops is long. It is reported that Dominica's avocado production ranks second in the world, after Mexico. Several avocado varieties, such as semil 34, Choquette, Carla and Pollock, are planted locally. The percentage of the total avocado production in China is 25%, and the planting area is 31440 ha. 

Avocados can be processed in a variety of ways after being picked, but the most common ones are grading, waxing, and packaging. There are also a variety of avocado grading waxing equipment on the market for fruit processing plants to choose from.

OSMAR Ben í tez, the Minister of agriculture in Dominica, said the signing of the protocol "is a good opportunity to expand trade". In an announcement, he said that a shipping route has been established, which can deliver products to China within 15 days from Dominica via the Panama Canal, instead of 32 days previously.

According to Benitez, other products in Dominica, such as cocoa, mango, pineapple and banana, are going through the health and quarantine assessment process to allow entry into the Chinese market. At present, the products exported from Dominica to China include coffee, cigars, tobacco and various by-products, coconuts, etc.

In October 2019, a number of experts from the General Administration of Customs of China visited Dominica to verify and standardize the export related procedures of Haas avocado. Zhang run, Chinese ambassador to Dominica, pointed out in the announcement that the unique natural environment and agricultural technology progress of Dominica make the avocado produced locally better and taste better. "Dominica products with symbolic significance and excellent quality have bright development prospects in the Chinese market.".
