Customer Background & Needs
In recent years, potato grading equipment has gained significant attention from sortage operators and growers - such machinery can quickly and accurately grade potatoes by diameter, imporving product quality while reducing labor costs.
Against this backdrop, an Irania customer approached Fstsort with a custom request: a potato cleaning & sorting line with a capacity of 15-20 tons per hour, capable of grading potatoes into three size fractions: <40mm, 40-70mm, and >70mm.
In addition, the customer had two critical requirements:
1.Graded potatoes should be directly fed to the customer's packing station, minimizing intermediate handling.
2.The line should include dust removal at the front end to maintain a clean working environment.
Customized Solution
To meet these specific needs, the FstSort engineering team dedicated efforts to design and deliver a high-performance, stable potato cleaning & sorting line.
Basic Technical Specification
Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
Single-unit capacity | 8 tons/hour |
Number of grades | 3 – 6 (adjustable) |
Dimensions (L×W×H) | 9260 × 1500 × 1220 mm |
Power | 2.6 kW |
Voltage | 220V / 380V |
1. Throughput: Twin-Machine Parallel Layout Reaches 15 t/h
The customer expected 15–20 t/h, while the standard FstSort potato sorter has a single-unit capacity of 8 t/h. Our solution therefore arranged two sorters side by side, achieving total line capacity that fully covers the target.
2. Accurate Grading: Three Output Sizes

Based on the customer’s size requirements, the sorting parameters were set as:
Grade | Size range | Discharge method |
|---|---|---|
Grade 1 | <40 mm | Side discharge into collection area |
Grade 2 | 40–70 mm | Center collection → elevator → packing machine |
Grade 3 | >70 mm | Side discharge into collection area |
This precise grading ensures each batch meets market standards, raising product value.
3. Packing Integration: Elevator Matches Packing Station
The customer required that graded potatoes feed directly into packing equipment.
In our design, Grade 1 and Grade 3 potatoes discharge laterally, while Grade 2 potatoes are centrally collected and lifted via an elevator to 1800mm height, then directly fed into the automatic packing machine – achieving seamless integration between grading and packing.

4. Dust & Cleaning: Brush Roller + Centralized Suction
The customer specifically asked for dust removal ahead of grading. We therefore installed a brush roller cleaner at the front of the line, equipped with an overhead centralized suction system. This effectively captures surface soil and dust, protecting the equipment and maintaining a clean workshop environment.

Value Delivered
This tailored solution brings multiple benefits:
1.Target throughput – Twin-machine design meets the 15–20 t/h requirement precisely.
2.Labor savings – Automated sorting drastically reduces manual picking and labor costs.
3.Uniform quality Three‑size grading ensures consistent potato dimensions, improving market competitiveness.
4.Streamlined workflow –Direct connection to packing eliminates intermediate transport, raising overall efficiency.
5.Clean environment – Dust control system protects both workers and equipment.
