Do you know what saffron is? Saffron is a kind of medicinal crop in China. It originates from Iran, which is the primary country for planting saffron. 80% of the saffrons in the world are harvested in Iran.  

Because the yield of saffron is rare, Saffron is really precious. Saffron is a flower on the base of the corms. There may be several buds on one saffron corms. But to ensure the high quality of saffron, people only keep two or three buds according to sizes of corms. One bud will be three flowers. And each flower will have three filaments. So saffron corms can only produce 18 filaments each year.
