Vietnamese dragon fruit farmers reap profits from soaring prices

According to Truong Quang An, head of the Tam Vu cooperative in Long An province, the price of white dragon fruit has reached VND20,000 per kilo and red dragon fruit VND30,000 per kilo.

He claims that demand is strong not only in the domestic market but also in China, where the border was reopened ten days ago. This is in contrast to the situation in late 2021 and early 2022 when dragon fruit was stranded at border crossings. This led to prices dropping to VND2,000-4,000 per kilo. Although prices have since risen, they are still very low and as a result many farmers have cut down dragon fruit plants in favour of other crops.

In Binh Thuan, Vietnam's dragon fruit hub, traders are buying white dragon fruit at VND18,000-26,000 per kilo and red dragon fruit at VND35,000-42,000. Prices are 3-4 times higher than a month ago and 10 times higher than the same period last year.
